Lightness: improving household capacity to participate in energy markets

How can we support Citizen Energy Communities (CECs) that wish to participate in flexibility markets? How can we increase the uptake and rollout of new community-centric business models?

Lightness develops services that offer support in the form of technical and digital resources, roadmaps, and participation tools to strengthen the organizational capacity necessary to create and market flexibility. In short, it helps develop innovative business models that focus on multiple value creation for communities, in the economic, social as well as environmental domains.

Lightness partners will plant their boots in the proverbial mud of five community flexibility projects in France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain. Lightness will reach over 5000 households, over 30 buildings and more than 70.000 people waiting to replicate the process developed in the pilot sites.

In the Netherlands, DuneWorks will cooperate with Stedin, Lianders, BAM and other partners. We are responsible for inventorying user needs and designing user participation trajectories. The insights into user needs will also feed into improving user interfaces. Finally, DuneWorks will develop a method to monitor and evaluate user experience and participation.

Lightness is a European Horizon 2020 project that starts in the fall of 2020. It includes seven partner countries: Spain, Ireland, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.
